STOP SINGH-RANI DEPORTATION

M. Singh, Mrs Rani and their two-year-old Canadian daughter Hezal will be deported to India on Saturday, July 4.
Their daughter Hezal is a Canadian citizen; she is currently enrolled in daycare and learning French. Hezal suffers from severe anemia, a condition for which early intervention is crucial and she is currently receiving medical treatment and regular follow-up at the Blue House. Her next appointment for blood work is scheduled for August 26.
Before arriving in Canada, Ms. Rani had been a victim of several forms of gender-based violence, such as verbal, physical, psychological and financial violence. She has good reason to fear that she and her daughter would suffer the same abuse again if the family were to be deported to India. She currently receives health care and psychosocial services at the Blue House, where she is also attended by a social worker. However, she would completely lose that support network if she were expelled.
The Singh-Rani family is well known and appreciated for their community; parents volunteer for organizations such as Brick-by-Brick, an OBNL of Parc-Extension that promotes affordable housing and social justice. Ms. Rani has also taken on a leadership role in the organization Afrique au Feminin, an OLF that supports the integration of migrant women and the improvement of their conditions in Quebec. M. Singh and Mrs Rani were both holding full-time jobs until they received their eviction notices.

Quebec’s New Immigration Reality

July 2026 marks another significant shift in Canada's immigration system. While federal and Quebec governments present these measures as administrative reforms, they reflect a broader political and economic strategy: managing migration primarily according to labour market needs while imposing tighter controls on temporary migrants, refugee claimants and international students. Although many of the new measures apply across Canada, their impact will be particularly significant in Quebec, where debates over immigration... Read more →
