Benefit dinner for legal defense

Photos submitted by Raphaël Laflamme

The IWC organized a dinner with music and a comedy show to raise funds for the legal defense of two migrant beneficiary applicants who have been made victims of human trafficking.

After being deceived by their employer, the Villa Mon Domaine, under false pretenses of being granted a work permit, they were made to survive for months without a salary, all while working up to six days a week during the height of the pandemic.

Now threatened with deportation by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), they have been forced to seek out specialized legal council to defend their case.

More information may be found in this article in Le Devoir.

If you wish to support their cause, but were unable to attende the event, you may still make a donation to the IWC PayPal account, with the note “funds for legal defense”.

The photos show a dinner of a dozen or so people, in a multipurpose room. There are several tables arranged around a small stage where people take turns speaking from a microphone. There are banners that read “Vive la solidarité ouvrière internationale!” and “IWC-CTI: centre des travailleurs et travailleuses immigrants”.
