Cellulab
The workers at Cellulab, a repairing cell phone company came to the centre for help, when they lost their jobs. The vast majority of workers were new immigrants from North Africa, Mexico and other countries. The employer closed its doors after the unionization of its workers. The company closed without notice, without informing the government of a collective dismissal, and without paying its workers for two months. The IWC has worked closely with the UFCW (Union of Food and Commercial Workers) to file a joint complaint with la Commission des Normes du Travail (the Labour Standards Board). Through a campaign, supported by the IWC and TUAC, the workers won their back wages through a federal government program. Collective action and organizing are the key to success!
